The Dollar Hen: The Classic Guide to American Free-Range Egg Farming
Published in Paperback by Norton Creek Press (March, 2003)
Authors: Milo M. Hastings and Robert Plamondon
Average review score:

Old book given new life
Mr. Plamondon has taken a 1909 classic and edited it to reflect modern advances while maintaining the common sense basis of the original. His comments are bolded at the bottom of the page where needed. The original text is maintained allowing the reader to see how pastured poultry farming was done almost a hundred years ago. Recommended reading for anyone either raising free-range poultry or considering it.

Nothing new under the sun.
Lots of new gadgets and inventions today but the old methods of yester year still tried and true. This is brought out in a wonderful easy read and fine editing by Mr. Plamondon. Capturing the past and sailing it into today with good common 'chicken sense' practices. I also have other books by Mr. Plamondon that have that same appeal. Success With Baby Chicks, Genetics of the Fowl and am looking forward to getting my copy of Feeding Poultry: The Classic Guide to Poultry Nutrition. These are a wealth of information for the beginner to the well weathered Showman or the serious breeders.
I highly recommend these books.

The Marilyn Conspiracy
Published in Paperback by Pocket Books (April, 1986)
Author: Milo Speriglio
Average review score:

She was murdered by the government. Fact.
God this book makes you paranoid.

It gives a well presented argument of...

1/ Who killed her 2/ How they did it 3/ Why they did it

I for one believed it and I'm a born cynic.

Reasonably well written aswell.

Soups, Salads, Memories of Milo
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Kathryn Renee Vaclav (22 August, 1997)
Authors: Kathryn Renee Vaclav and Debra L Heabel
Average review score:

This book is a cookbook collector's delight!
The monumental pressure for publishing companies to compete for space on bookstore shelves has produced a rash of slick, gimmicky, over-hyped, here-today-gone-tomorrow cookbooks that confuse and cheat the buyer. They have crowded out low-budget, regional cookbooks or self-published gems that simply but charmingly reflect their respective communities and authors. I love the concept of Amazon.com because it gives the consumer far broader opportunities and choices; and unknown authors and small publishers get much fairer exposure, which they so deserve because their works are of their hearts and dreams. "Soups, Salads, Memories of Milo" is a perfect example. There is no fair way to rate it by a certain number of stars...it's too unique. Its author, Kathryn Vaclav, grieving over the death of her beloved cat, Milo, built her little cookbook around his life and personality. She loves to cook and to create soul-satisfying soups that reflect her European heritage and Illinois background. Ever her companion, Milo played a big part in her endeavors, lovingly supervising her every move in the kitchen. The naivete of the book's design and format is refreshing in today's too polished world. There are oversights, such as lack of serving amounts and ingredients listed out of order; but any enthusiastic cook, looking for new ideas or almost-forgotten approaches (i.e. roasting pork neck bones and whole onions to create a soup's base), will overlook these because of the fun content and delicious results. I tried the Sauerkraut Soup with Tri-Colored Pepper Salad...wonderful! The Cream of Tomato Soup is full of flavor, and converts beautifully into an Italian Bread Soup by omitting the sour cream and adding chunks of peasant bread. We loved the Lima Bean Soup with the Easy Bacon Rolls (of Lithuanian descent). The latter recipe calls for 2 tablespoons of filling per roll, but Kathryn must have intended 2 teaspoons...no biggy, as one quickly catches on and the end result is a tasty and unique companion to hearty soups, any leftovers freezing beautifully.

I think Kathryn and Milo did a great job! Good cooks and warm-hearted readers will find this book to be a special treat, and, if fervent animal lovers, might even shed a tear or two at the end. Florida Sights and Scenes of Fort Lauderdale (Florida, Sights and Scenes of)
Published in Hardcover by Gulf Publishing (January, 1997)
Author: H. Milo Stewart
Average review score:

nice photos
This book contains beautiful photos of the Fort Lauderdale area and might be a good souvenir. It is not the travel guide type of book I was looking for, although it does contain interesting information about the photos in the book.

On the Way to the Venus De Milo: A Novel
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (January, 1995)
Author: Pearson Marx
Average review score:

ON THE WAY TO THE VENUS DE MILO
This is a breezy read with a few amusing observations about relationships, but by and large, there is precious little of interest here. The basic plot is rudimentary and the problems of the characters are facile and just not very compelling. A disposable book, suitable for passing time at the beach, but nothing memorable.

Introduction to Digital Systems
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (January, 1999)
Authors: Miloś D. Ercegovac, Tomás Lang, and Jaime H. Moreno
Average review score:

A Book Not To Read
This book is absolutely horrible. The Professor who teaches this class with this book HE WROTE, is utterly dispicible because of his teaching ability. This professor, at UC Irvine does not know the one bit in teaching a COMPLICATED subject like Digital Systems to a class who has had little to no experiece with this type of work. I hope this book is revoked for any reason, and hope that professor reads this review in order to gain some knowledge about the way he is teaching a class of Engineers in an era where knowledge is not automatically achieved, rather taught by knowledgable instructors.

Tell your teacher to get another book!
I used this book for an introductory logic design class. I was able to learn from it, but it was difficult. The teacher didn't even use it much. The book was not well written and hard to understand. I recommend learning from another book.

Good reference, poor for beginners
I began learning about hardware design with this book. Now I use it for reference.

But for beginners, this is not a very good book. Although hardware design is somewhat difficult to explain, the book does not analyze subjects in detail or how circuits work. When it does try to explain topics, it does not do so clearly and provides few examples. Unless you have outside help (such as a teacher, professor, teaching assistant, etc.), I would definitely recommend finding another book to learn about hardware design because you will struggle while trying to figure out how things work (if you are a novice).

Arizona Rental Rights: A Guide Book for Tenants, Landlords, & Mobile Home Users
Published in Paperback by Eakin Publications (September, 1992)
Authors: David A. Peterson, Milo Kearney, and Anthony Knopp
Average review score:

Beware
Andrew Hull is one of the most notorious evicition landlords in arizona, and the fact that he wrote this book purposely illustrates the fact that he attempts to lead tenants down the wrong path so that his own practice can thrive on the mistakes someone who read this book is bound to make. Undeniably, this is the worst book for someone who is having a problem with their landlord.

The Art of Manara
Published in Hardcover by NBM Publishing, Inc. (December, 1994)
Authors: Milo Manara, Jacinthe Leclerc, and Ying Gu

Great Book Ruined By Translation!
I have always loved Manara's work, but this translation is SO poorly done I can't believe it. Plan to completely ignore the semi-literate text if you buy it.

Livingston's Field Guide to North American Males
Published in Paperback by Doubleday (01 March, 1984)
Authors: Julia Runk and Trump, Milo Jones and Milo Trump
Average review score:

Insipid, childish and boring
An attempt to rip off the old "Preppie Handbook" in style, this silly little book describes "Machoman" vs. "Ths Boggle Brain" (and a whole bunch of other "species") as if they were birds in an attempt at humor. It looks like more effort was made at trying to plug different types of guys into pigeon holes (no pun intended) than at coming up with some real wit. I'll use my old copy to line our hamster cage.
